Pass It On :)

Ahh, family heirlooms. My family revolves around people passing things down. It's fun, and very historical. There are many things that get passed down in my family, everything from property to simple pieces of paper. Big or small, old or new, it's all priceless to us. The biggest thing that gets passed down in our family, on my Dad's side, is an estate in Texas. My Grandmother's aunt, owned a huge estate, and parts of downtown Austin. Everyone that is of direct descent to her, get a piece of that land. My Grandmother owns a portion, her sister owned a portion,(her daughters own it now), but my Grandpa never owned a piece. It's a weird way to pass things down. When my Dad passes away, my brother and I split my Dad's portion. Another thing that is passed down in my family is jewelary. We are BIG on that. For my last birthday, my Grandma gave me a pearl ring that was my great, great, great, Grandmother's. It's really special. My Mom also has an original Schaich ring, that has NEVER left our family. It's been a Schaich heirloom for over 150 years. I also received a necklace that belonged to Mable Adams. We're direct decendents of her. My Grandpa's grandmother was an original Adams. She was related to John Adams. I don't really know the full on history. I'm sure my Dad does, I've just never asked him. :) The last, but most important thing that gets passed down in our family, is documents, and papers. We have all kinds of marriage licenses, death certificates, portraits, newspapers and so much more. I think the most important paper we have, that is an heirloom, is a simple napkin. It's actually a really silly, but cute story. It doesn't mean much to a lot of people, but it's a big deal for us, or at least the Schaich MEN. Five generations ago, my great great grandfather wrote an original poem to my great great grandmother asking her to marry him. Then he presented her with that ring I mentioned earlier. They were married until death did them part. Same for my great grandparents, and my grandparents. My Dad used the poem, and the ring on my Mom. Obviously it worked, because they are still married, and the happiest couple I know. It's supposed to bring good luck. So, my brother is the only Schaich kid left. So he gets it next. I'm pretty sure he's clueless to it. hahaha. Well that's it for heirlooms. :)

Awwuh, that story about the poem and ring was so adorable. The ending made me laugh though because you mentioned your brother getting the ring next.haha. Doode, it must be nice having so many family heirlooms like that because there are so many memories from that. Wish my history was as interesting like that.(:
