What is it with boys and Pokémon or just any games? Is it just something boys do? Is it like that obsession that girls have with different boy bands or male celebrities? Is is something that you find enjoyable? Is it a way to get you to hang onto your childhood? I've been finding that almost every guy I know has this weird obsession with Pokémon. I really don't understand it. I mean, I've heard about it from my brother, and I have even done a little research. From what I understand, it's a game where you try to put fictitious creatures (called Pokémon) inside of a ball that is about 4 times smaller than the creature. The object of the game is to capture as many of these creatures as possible. Along the way you have to "battle trainers and others" to gain some sort of points. Oh, and the rare creatures are even better to catch. So basically you want to put happy and free creatures into captivity in order to become some great Pokémon champion? What's up with that? Oh, and I forgot to mention that this is a card game, game boy game, and t.v. show. Going back to my analogy, you know the one about celebrities. The truth is girls obsess over celebrities not because they honestly think they are going to marry them, but to escape reality in a way. In my personal opinion, girls obsess over guys they can't have because they just want to get away, and live in a dreamland. Is that why boys like Pokémon? Or am I all wrong. Explain this to me?

Katelyn, your blog just made my day(:
But I can see where your coming from. Why do boys obsess with Pokemon and YuGiOh for that matter? I really don't understand. I can agree with you for the girls. We just want to escape or not so perfect like and imagine ours as a celebrity.
I know!!!!
I don't get itt!!
hahahaha.
I'm glad my blog made your day.
:)
that made my day!
haha, well yeah, guys just love Pokémon and games because we grew up with them. Since we were little kids, every guy has had a favorite game and cartoon, and Pokémon was just one of the best that for some reason everyone could relate to. Also at the time it came out on tv, most cartoons were from the U.S. and Pokémon was from Japan and ultimately new. And the point of the show and game was not always to put "happy and free creatures into captivity" but to catch and raise a wild creature much in the same way that people catch a wild or stray animals and nurture and raise them. The game also was, and still is one of the greatest adventure and strategy game of all time. The t.v. show also was immensely popular because it showed many things that applied to real life, like challenging new people to a competition and in the end making and keeping friendships. Also I can understand why Pokémon is so misunderstood by many girls, and mainly because every guy has some nerdy or geeky side to him that Pokémon just seems to fulfill, but girls on the other hand usually have a side to them that strives for a better and what they see as a more happy life, while most guys look for something that would just be fun or different
Well Rowan, you answered my question. Guys have a geeky side to them that attracts them to Pokémon. :)
Thank you for being very explicit. You have changed my opinion on the game. :)
Haha, well, maybe not all guys have a geeky side, but most of them do. And those that do usually keep it inside of them because they believe it is uncool. Pokémon for some reason just lets guys be who they are and its just special that way. Plus i just noticed that you actually spelled Pokémon correctly with the accent over the 'e'. Do you have some secret nerdy side?? Or did your brother bug you to do it?? Just wondering by the way.
It's addicting, I'm not going to even try to deny it. I LOVE pokemon, i know all their names, I know how to evolve an Eevee into a Glaceon and I could probably draw you out a map of each region. I guess I've always wanted a best friend, like a really loyal companion who would have my back and throw down for me. Plus it's a major ego boost to have level one hundred pokemon.
Yes Rowan, I have a secret nerdy side too, just not in the same way you do.
:]
hahaha, actually, I knew there was an accent over the e. I'm not completely clueless, just semi. :)
Having a geeky side isn't uncool, it's just hard for some people (like me) to comprehend. Especially for guys. I see guys thinking cartoons like that being dumb, maybe I'm just being too stereo-typical I guess? Which is bad and I have to stop doing that.
Matteo,
I think it's great that you find it "ego boosting" to have a level one hundred pokémon. I have to be honest with you, I really don't understand what that means but..yeah. I also have another confession....today...for the first time EVER.
I played the Pokémon game, and it was quite addicting. lol. I played Pokémon Sapphire. I actually went out to Game Stop, and bought it. I played it for like an hour and a half non-stop. I don't know too much about it, but I agree, Pokémon is a pretty cool game.
:)
shesh i have the game to catch the cute ones.... maek me one of ur cool ppl, like the ones on the list! i have a blog here too :D
Oh my this is HILLARIOUS and just made me smile. :) It's so true though. No matter how old a boy can get, I don't think they will ever be able to seperate from their pokemon cards.
it is like having a dog, but you are training that dog too be the best to a level you don't even think it is possible. On the way of going to the next level your 'dog' so too speak, gets to learn moves gets faster, gets stronger, gets even more experience like a human being. But there are different types of 'dogs' there are ones that can breath fire, shoot lightning, breath in water, or hell even fly. They can be as little to your knee or even 10 times as big as you. But don't think as these as "dogs", but think that they are these creatures. Do you get the point?
hahahaha.
yeah I do.
:)
I want a fire breathing dog.
That'd be sick :]
